Rare Street Coffee Rapperswil

Rapperswil-Jona • Switzerland

Specialty café in a former petrol station on Lake Zurich. Order the house roast and a cinnamon bun among rare cars, classic motorcycles and retro helmets.

About the venue

The pump stayed. The fuel changed.

An old petrol pump still greets you at Rütistrasse 2 in Rapperswil. Behind it, the former filling station now runs on espresso.

Rare Street Coffee pairs barista coffee with a passion for rare cars and motorcycles. The room is part living room, part showroom, part museum: classic cars, quick mopeds, retro helmets and photography about mobility, with a line-up that keeps changing. Past displays have included a 1957 Porsche 356 A outlaw, a Mercedes-Benz Pagoda, a Shelby, and Ducati and Triumph motorcycles.

The coffee is roasted in-house, and the house blend, Scout's Signature Blend, is sold as beans to take home. The menu runs from breakfast and brunch to a relaxed aperitif, and reviewers single out the cinnamon buns from the team's own Rare Street Bakery.

Behind it are restaurateur Scout Behrens, who opened his first café at 16, and architect Philipp Brühwiler, who met him as a regular customer and shares his love of classic cars and motorsport. In 2017 the café launched Rare Cars & Bikes, a meet so popular that by its second edition owners had to apply with photos and explain why their machine deserved a place.

Rapperswil is the original and still the headquarters. The brand has since added a take-away counter on Zurich's Marktgasse and a second café in Zug, opened in July 2026 in a tower Brühwiler designed. Rapperswil sits about 40 km from Zurich, roughly half an hour by car, and has direct trains from the city.
