In a recent development within the Formula 1 paddock, Mario Andretti has acknowledged that Sergio Perez is under consideration for a seat with the Cadillac F1 team in the 2026 season.
Cadillac is set to join the F1 grid as the eleventh team, introducing two additional seats for drivers. Perez, who departed from Red Bull Racing at the conclusion of the 2024 season following a challenging campaign, has been linked to one of these openings. The Mexican driver has indicated he will take six months to deliberate on his future in the sport.
Andretti, serving on Cadillac’s board of directors, confirmed that Perez is a viable candidate for the team. Speaking to ESPN’s Spanish edition, he stated, “He is an option. It could be an option. Absolutely.”
Cadillac has expressed a preference for an experienced driver to occupy at least one of its seats, alongside an American presence. Andretti noted the limited availability of American drivers but highlighted that there are several seasoned drivers to consider. He remarked, “The second driver, the second seat, will definitely be an experienced driver who might be available. And we all know that the selection in that regard is quite clear.”
