Mercedes-AMG Joins FIA WEC in 2025 with Iron Lynx in LMGT3 Class

Mercedes-AMG has officially announced its entry into the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), partnering with Iron Lynx to compete in the LMGT3 class. This marks a historic return to the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans for Mercedes-Benz, last seen at the Sarthe in 1999.

The Italian racing powerhouse, Iron Lynx, will field two Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars, representing a major switch from Lamborghini. With homologation processes underway, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 is set to meet FIA WEC’s technical criteria, including torque-sensor-equipped drive shafts and wind tunnel compliance testing, ensuring the cars are race-ready by the start of the season.

This collaboration extends beyond the FIA WEC, as the AMG GT3 will now qualify for entries in series like the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series, and IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, offering multiple pathways to Le Mans glory.

Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, shared his excitement:

“It’s no secret that we’ve been eager to bring the three-pointed star back to Le Mans. The 2025 season is the perfect moment – 26 years later, we return with our successful Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the experienced Iron Lynx team, setting a new milestone in our Customer Racing journey.”

Iron Lynx Team Principal Andrea Piccini echoed this enthusiasm:

“Partnering with Mercedes-AMG is a proud moment for our team. With their incredible support and our endurance racing expertise, we’re confident in hitting the ground running in 2025. We look forward to preparing for the FIA WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the new AMG LMGT3 race cars.”

The journey begins with the FIA WEC Prologue on February 21–22, 2025, at Lusail International Circuit, followed by the inaugural Qatar 1812km race. As Mercedes-AMG and Iron Lynx embark on this thrilling collaboration, endurance racing fans can expect a competitive and emotionally charged return of the three-pointed star to the global stage.
